New patient rights and responsibilities now available for Providence Oregon hospitals

PROVIDENCE OREGON – Earlier this year, Providence implemented a new patient rights policy systemwide, with a focus on health equity. Now, the updated brochures are available at Providence Oregon hospitals. These brochures will also be rolled out at our clinics and other ambulatory service centers in early 2023.

Why did we update the document?

Providence asked a group of caregivers to offer a health equity perspective on the patient rights and responsibilities brochure. They identified an opportunity where the federally required text did not explicitly call out our commitment to providing inclusive, safe, equitable and quality health care for all patients – in line with our Mission and values.

What’s new?

The updated patient rights and responsibilities:

  • Affirms our commitment to health equity and honoring the dignity and diversity of each person.
  • Calls out that “harassment or mistreatment of our staff will not be tolerated.”
  • Continues to meet regulatory requirements.
