PROVIDENCE OREGON — Recently, we’ve seen seven patients with confirmed measles at various Providence locations in the Portland area. Some of these visits resulted in measles exposures affecting dozens of caregivers and medical staff members.
The recent cases appear to be connected to a close-knit community with lower vaccination rates. We may see more cases within this community, with potential spread to others.
Important: If you are exposed to measles and don’t have proof of immunity, you may need to be excluded from work for five to 21 days.
You’re considered immune if you have one of these:
· Two doses of the MMR vaccine
· A positive titer for rubeola
Check your records
Providence doesn’t keep immunization records for medical staff members who aren’t our employees, so be sure to follow your employer’s process for keeping measles immunity on file. Or, keep your own files if not required by your employer. This can help you continue working if you are exposed and remain symptom-free.
If you don’t have documentation, here’s where to check:
· Your healthcare provider, clinic or local pharmacy may be able to print records from their medical record system.
· Oregon Immunization Program may have your records, depending on your age and where you have lived. Or, you can check with the state where you were immunized.
If no records are available and you believe you are immune, you can talk with your healthcare provider about getting a titer for rubeola.
Update your N95 fit testing if needed
Fit testing is required annually. If you need a fit test, Providence’s caregiver health services team can help. Call 949-534-4450 to schedule a test.
