Jennifer Burrows, RN
Chief Executive
Providence Oregon
I’m pleased to share that Raymond Moreno, M.D., has accepted the position of chief executive of Providence Oregon’s West Service Area – which includes Providence St. Vincent and Providence Seaside.
This is the first time in the history of Providence St. Vincent that the ministry will be led by a physician.
Dr. Moreno brings a wealth of experience to his new leadership role. As a first-generation Cuban-American, Dr. Moreno’s introduction to health care began while serving as an interpreter for his parents. His first job in health care was as an emergency medical technician, which ultimately led him to medical school at Brown University.
Dr. Moreno joined the Providence St. Vincent team two decades ago as part of the emergency department’s private practice. He grew as a physician leader on campus, becoming the emergency department’s medical director, and within the Oregon Emergency Physician group, serving as its president. Just before the pandemic, Dr. Moreno left those leadership roles to join the St. Vincent administrative team as chief medical officer. During his time as CMO, he has provided steady leadership during a time of great change in an inclusive, collaborative way. Dr. Moreno was instrumental in the design, construction and fundraising for St. Vincent’s expanded ED, which is nearing completion.
Over the years, Dr. Moreno has also held community leadership roles ranging from serving as Washington County’s EMS medical director to leadership roles with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and Clackamas County Fire. Dr. Moreno also serves as the executive sponsor for Providence’s Latinx caregiver resource group, which is personally very meaningful to him.
We had several extremely capable candidates apply for this position – and with feedback from the dozens of people involved in the interview process, we know Dr. Moreno is the right leader for this position at this time.
He brings to this position a strong commitment to patient care, a curiosity to challenge the status quo and a dedication to our caregivers. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Moreno to this new position.

I am honored and humbled to have this opportunity to serve as chief executive. My time as chief medical officer, which began at the onset of the pandemic, has been the most rewarding part of my professional career. I am so proud to have worked alongside so many of you, and to have had the opportunity to provide clinical and operational leadership during a uniquely challenging time.
In the coming weeks, I am looking forward to reconnecting with those of you who I know, and beginning to get to know those of you I have not yet worked with. Despite the challenges facing all of us in health care, I am fundamentally hopeful about what lies ahead. That hope stems from the excellence, kindness and commitment to serving patients that I experienced when I worked my first shift in our ED almost exactly 20 years ago and continue to experience when I come to work every day.
With deep gratitude,
Ray Moreno, M.D.
