After serving as a physician and executive leader for decades, Kevin Olson, M.D., has shared his plans to retire. Kevin’s last day with Providence will be April 11.

Kevin currently serves as the physician executive leader of our division’s clinical institutes, a role he has held since shortly after the divisions were formed. In that role, Kevin crafted a model for coordinating the many clinical institutes across our division. He created a framework in which our clinicians can learn from one another and share the latest lifesaving medical advancements.

Kevin’s leadership, largely behind the scenes, has touched many lives and improved health outcomes in the communities he has dedicated his career to caring for. Prior to leading our Central Division institutes, Kevin served for years as a physician leader, first with his private practice, NW Cancer Specialists/Compass Oncology, and then with Providence. He joined Providence in 2013 as executive medical director of cancer services in Oregon and was named to lead all clinical institute programs in Oregon six years later.

In addition to his achievements as an executive leader, I want to recognize Kevin’s compassion for the patients we serve and his passion for making sure they get the best possible care. From the beginning of his career as an oncologist, he was called to care for patients when they were at their most vulnerable. This commitment to serving those in need is first among the many attributes for which I’ve come to admire Kevin, a servant leader to his core.

Please join me in thanking Kevin for his countless contributions to our ministry, and in congratulating him on his well-earned retirement. He is a true person of Providence and his presence will be greatly missed.
