William's Blog: This thankful season

When times are good, it’s easy to skip saying thank you. When times are tough, we sometimes forget to say thank you.

At Providence, giving thanks is part of what we are as an organization. There’s no question we have had a difficult year – on top of two other difficult years driven by the pandemic.

So I want to make sure you have heard this personally from me: Thank you. Thank you for going the extra mile, looking for new ways to work and work together, and for all the times you’ve chosen to focus on our patients and communities, especially when dealing with so many real distractions.

I also want to thank you for your courage. The writer C.S. Lewis once said, "Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point." We certainly have known multiple testing points recently, and you have carried on in ways large and small. That’s courage on display, and I am grateful for it.

As always, I’m thankful for the strong Mission and values that provide the firm foundation for all we do at Providence. Through reorganization, transition and waves of patients coming to us in need, we have remained committed to helping others. And I know our Mission and values will continue to guide us in 2022 and beyond.

I have a request. Would you please take time to let at least three people here at Providence know you are grateful for them? I think this could make this thankful season particularly meaningful.

I’ll close by saying thanks from all of us to those of you working at our facilities during the holiday. Your dedication is appreciated every day, and especially when that dedication calls you away from time with your family and friends. I hope you feel a sense of deep gratitude as you care for others this Thanksgiving weekend.
