Providence Mission Hospital expanded its Raising Healthy Teens program with the launch of Crianza Positiva (Positive Parenting), a Spanish-language module designed to support monolingual Spanish-speaking parents and caregivers in South Orange County. The program helps families recognize early signs of stress and substance use risks and encourages them to have conversations about the risks of alcohol and drug use.
Through engaging video content and culturally resonant messaging via trusted community channels, outreach deeply resonates with Spanish-speaking families and Crianza Positiva’s reach continues to grow:

"By offering prevention education in their language and through digital media they already use, we’re closing gaps that have historically left these families without access to critical information,” said Marci Mednick, community development specialist at Providence Mission Hospital. “Teens deserve accurate, culturally relevant information long before they face real-world pressure, and families deserve tools that meet their language and access needs. When we invest in prevention education, we strengthen communities, reduce harm, and ensure every young person—regardless of the language spoken at home—reaches their full potential without drugs and alcohol getting in the way.”
One parent commented that before participating in the workshop, conversations about marijuana with their teen often escalated into arguments.
“Learning how to stay curious instead of confrontational completely changed things for us,” the parent shared. “Now my teen actually talks, and I finally feel like we’re on the same team.”
Providence’s Well Being Trust is honored to help drive this important work that advances the mental health and well-being of our youth.
