Education and access to nutrition are part of ensuring our community’s basic health needs are met. In the San Fernando Valley, Providence’s Food, Education, Access, Support, Together program supports these core foundations of health.

FEAST is an evidence-based, 12-week nutrition education program that helps community members build healthier eating habits while fostering meaningful social connections. Each session combines practical lessons on using fresh produce and whole grains with hands-on cooking guidance, encouraging participants to prepare nutritious, satisfying meals at home.

Program graduate Jose Moreno joined the program alongside his wife. Together, they have two children who inspire them to improve their eating habits. The FEAST program helped them bring new, healthy recipes to their family in a simple, accessible way.

Weekly check-ins and sharing circles strengthen community bonds and provide ongoing support. In 2025, more than 48 individuals completed the FEAST program across local schools, churches and senior centers, each taking important steps toward healthier eating and stronger community connections. Over the last four years, a total of 212 individuals have completed the program.

Dalila Georgestone, community health supervisor for the Providence LA-Valley service area, reflects on seeing the pride on participants faces at a cohort graduation.

“It is a big deal for most of our participants because they didn’t think, know or believe that they would be capable of committing to the program, or may have limited education,” Georgestone said. “It’s a great feeling as a supervisor to see the excitement and accomplishment of participants crossing the finish line.”
