The St. Joseph Fund (SJF) believes that lasting change begins with community wisdom, leadership and power. That belief has guided the Intersections Initiative since 2016. Launched with Prevention Institute in 2016, the initiative works to advance policy and systems change alongside communities that have been systematically excluded from resources and economic disinvestment. Beginning with seven California communities, Intersections helped communities advance upstream, health equity-driven solutions shaped and led by local voices with lived experience.
Today, Intersections has expanded to South King County, Wash. and represents the next phase of the journey. In continued partnership with the Prevention Institute, SJF is building on Intersections’ original foundation while responding to the urgent realities facing South King County residents, particularly displacement, inequitable opportunity and the pressures placed on historically marginalized communities by rising housing costs and longstanding disinvestment.
Throughout the planning and convening phase, the partnership focuses on carrying forward what Intersections has always stood for: strengthening community and collaborative capacity so that local leaders can shape solutions rooted in health equity, racial justice and belonging.
In this next chapter, SJF and the Prevention Institute share a vision for equitable development so communities can remain rooted in love, thrive with dignity and shape a stronger future together.
