Kim Cain (back row center) and Providence Hospice Team
Kim and Gary Cain became supporters of Providence Hospice services after their experience with Kim’s mother, and then again with her grandmother. They were so grateful for the compassionate care they received that they wanted to pay it forward. Kim and Gary’s philanthropy helps provide bereavement support groups and materials as well as supports the general services of the Hospice team, covering needed materials and items for families that would otherwise not be possible.
Kim says, “We know how much the services meant to us, and we couldn’t imagine what others who lack the resources or have less local support might experience during such a vulnerable time. We give because we know what families are going through. We know how overwhelming it can be, and we want anyone who needs the help of hospice or bereavement care to have access to it.” These two philanthropists next door are truly an example of how philanthropy heals both the receiver and the giver.
Kim recently shared her story with our Hospice team in an angel pinning ceremony. An angel pinning is a healing act of gratitude wherein grateful patients and families can recognize caregivers who went above and beyond in their compassionate service to ease their way. Kim shared her hospice story with our team at a recent staff meeting and was able to recognize them for the support they offer those in need.
In addition to encouraging caregivers to continue in their difficult work, Kim said being able to share her story also helped lift a weight off her shoulders. She says, “Being able to express our gratitude and to think through our experience has helped me to process grief I didn’t realize I was still carrying even years later since my mom and grandmother died.” We are incredibly grateful for our donors like Kim and Gary who give out of the gratitude of their heart and who join in the mission of caring for the poor and vulnerable.
