Orthopedic nurse shares how rowing set the foundation for a career at Providence Swedish.
Rachel Mann has always been a team player. Growing up in Illinois and later as a student athlete on the University of Portland’s women’s rowing team, she learned how trust, resilience, and working in sync with others can make all the difference.
That same mindset has shaped her approach to nursing, where teamwork isn’t just important—it’s essential.
Now an orthopedic nurse at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett (PRMCE), Rachel has found her team in a whole new way. The camaraderie, support, and shared purpose she loved in rowing are the same things she values in the hospital. Whether it’s collaborating with colleagues or being present for her patients, she never feels alone—there’s always someone to have her back, just as she’s there for others.
Rachel is especially passionate about holistic care, ensuring that her patients feel truly seen, heard, and cared for as whole people. That’s why she’s drawn to hospice care, where comfort, connection, and dignity mean everything. She is most passionate about making her patients feel comfortable.
"Whether my patients need a blanket or something from home, I want people to feel comfortable enough to talk to me, even when they're in situations that are outside of their comfort zone,” said Rachel.
Just as Rachel and her rowing teammates pulled their oars to propel their boat, she is grateful for her new team at PRMCE, working together seamlessly to provide world-class patient care.
