HOBBS, New Mexico [July 21, 2026] — Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital awarded $20,000 in community grants to two local nonprofit organizations working to address food insecurity across Lea County. Isaiah’s Soup Kitchen and Weekend Hunger Initiative (WHI) Hobbs each received $10,000 through the Covenant Community Outreach Wellness & Prevention Initiative Grant Program.
The grants support organizations addressing priorities identified through Covenant Health’s Community Health Needs Assessment process, including food insecurity, substance abuse, housing insecurity and access to health care.
"Strong communities are built through partnerships," said Tavia Hatfield, executive director of Investment and Community Benefits for Covenant Health. "Isaiah’s Soup Kitchen and WHI Hobbs are making a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors every day. We are proud to support their efforts to ensure more individuals and families have reliable access to nutritious food."
Both grant recipients were selected for their commitment to addressing hunger among vulnerable populations in Lea County. Isaiah’s Soup Kitchen serves hot breakfasts and lunches Monday through Friday and provides food boxes twice each month to individuals and families in need. In 2025 alone, the organization served more than 54,600 meals throughout the community.
WHI Hobbs focuses on helping students from kindergarten through high school who may face
food insecurity on weekends when school meals are unavailable. The organization provides food resources that help ensure children have access to nutritious meals beyond the school week.
“This grant allows us to continue providing reliable, nutritious breakfast and lunch meals to those who depend on us each weekday,” said Anthony Fuentz, director of Isaiah’s Soup Kitchen. “It eases the financial burden of purchasing food, meal ingredients, paper products and serving supplies, allowing us to focus on serving our community with dignity, compassion and hope.”
Through partnerships with local nonprofits, Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital continues investing in programs that improve health outcomes and strengthen the well-being of individuals and families across the region.
