Expanding primary care access in Thurston County

August 6, 2026 Providence News Team

A message from Zach Rafeh, MD, Chief Medical Officer, and Russ Igoe, Chief Operating Officer, Providence Medical Group

As patient needs continue to evolve, Providence Medical Group is expanding Primary Care access in Thurston County to better meet demand for ongoing, relationship-based care while continuing to provide nearby walk-in options for patients who need same-day care.

We wanted to share this update with you directly because of your important role in helping patients navigate care in our community. As clinicians, your guidance often helps patients understand which care setting is best for their needs, whether that is establishing a primary care relationship, managing a chronic condition or seeking timely care for an acute concern.

As part of this transition, Hawks Prairie Immediate Care will close, and that space will be converted to expand Primary Care services. Providence Medical Group also opened a new Primary Care clinic on Ensign Road in Olympia in June and plans to open another clinic on Tumwater Hill in 2027. These changes are intended to help more patients establish care, improve continuity and better align services with how patients are seeking care today.

Nearby walk-in care options will remain available, including Providence ExpressCare near Hawks Prairie, Providence Immediate Care in Lacey and Providence Immediate Care in West Olympia. Immediate Care patient management offerings in Lacey and West Olympia are also changing to reflect lower-acuity care needs and will no longer require onsite nurse support.

We value our partnership with you and appreciate your continued collaboration in helping patients access the right care in the right setting. Thank you for your support as we make these changes in response to community need.
