Providence responds to ONA reaction

Providence negotiators are aware of the reaction from leaders at the Oregon Nurses Association to the latest offers at all 11 bargaining tables. The content of these proposals is not a surprise to the union. We informed union leaders back in the fall that our proposals at each table represented a stretch effort to reach agreement. This position was reiterated in December. Our consistent message to union leaders and bargaining team members was that if they chose to call a strike, the offers on the table would no longer be available.

Now, with a new round of bargaining taking place, we are starting from a different position, but our proposals have retained many substantial improvements including the more than 20%, on average, wage increases and other enhancements contained in our pre-strike proposals. The assertion that Providence ministries have broken the law is 100% false.

Providence believes that there is much conversation that needs to take place to reach agreements that reflect the priorities of represented nurses, physicians and providers at our ministries.  While this strike might be lengthy, it is our goal to reach resolution for each of the 11 tables.
