SANTA MONICA, July 31, 2025 — For the eighth consecutive year, Providence Saint John’s Health Center has earned the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award, recognizing its unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based stroke care that saves lives and reduces disability.

Providence Saint John’s also received three national recognitions from the Association: Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus, Target: Stroke Honor Roll Advanced Therapy and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll-Stroke— further demonstrating the hospital’s commitment to delivering the latest evidence-based care to every patient.
Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the United States. It occurs when a blood vessel that carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is either blocked by a clot or bursts. Without blood flow, brain cells begin to die. Early detection and treatment are critical to improving survival, minimizing disability and accelerating recovery.
“Our stroke program is committed to offering research-based treatments, collaborating with our emergency medical services (EMS) partners and raising awareness about stroke signs, symptoms and prevention in our community,” said Joni Chroman, executive director, Saint John’s Neuroscience Institute. “Receiving this recognition is an honor and a testament to our dedication to providing exceptional stroke care for patients.”
Get With The Guidelines brings the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association directly to hospitals nationwide, helping align patient care with the latest research and evidence-based guidelines.
As participants in the Get With The Guidelines Program, Saint John’s qualified for the recognition by demonstrating its commitment to improving quality stroke care and educating patients to manage their health and recovery at home.
“We are incredibly pleased to recognize Saint John’s for its commitment to caring for patients with stroke,” said Steven Messe, M.D., volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Stroke System of Care Advisory Group. “Participation in Get With The Guidelines is associated with improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates — a win for health care systems, families and communities.”
