AHA award

Kadlec Regional Medical Center has received American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® achievement awards for demonstrating commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease and stroke, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.

Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively, according to the American Heart Association 2025 Statistical Update. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.

Get With The Guidelines put the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest evidence- and research-based guidelines. As a participant in Get With The Guidelines programs, Kadlec qualified for the awards by demonstrating how it has committed to improving quality care.

 Stroke

Kadlec received the Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award. It also received the Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll award for meeting specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with thrombolytic therapy, and the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award, which aims to ensure patients with Type 2 diabetes receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke.

"Kadlec has proudly achieved Gold Plus status with the Diabetes Honor Roll award every year since 2019. These accolades are a testament to our team’s dedication and hard work in delivering high-quality stroke care," said Carrie Ruff, clinical program coordinator at Kadlec. "We are grateful to the American Heart Association for their recognition of our commitment to ensuring the best possible care for stroke patients. These awards reflect the outstanding teamwork, expertise, and compassion our caregivers demonstrate every day.”

Cardiovascular Care

Kadlec received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Resuscitation Bronze quality achievement award and Target: Survival award for its commitment to treating in-hospital cardiac arrest, ultimately helping to improve survival rates.

Survival from cardiac arrest largely depends on timely medical emergency team response and effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The program examines patient survival rates following in-hospital cardiac arrest and adjusts for multiple factors, including cardiac arrest rhythm, event location within the hospital, and prior illness severity. Awarded sites like Kadlec have a survival rate that places them in the top 40 percent of all Get With The Guidelines - Resuscitation participating hospitals in the United States.

"We are pleased to recognize Kadlec Regional Medical Center for its commitment in following these guidelines,” said Paul Chan, M.D., MSc, volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Resuscitation System of Care Advisory Group. “Hospitals that participate in Get With The Guidelines often see improved patient outcomes and improved survival rates — a win for health care systems, families and communities.”
