St. Joseph Hospital’s bariatric program achieves national recognition

The Bariatric Surgery Program at St. Joseph Hospital recently received national re-accreditation under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint program of the by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. The program also received certification as a Comprehensive Center for bariatric surgery.

“This re-accreditation and certification demonstrate our programmatic commitment to providing our patients with innovative treatment options and supportive care that addresses all their needs—body, mind and spirit,” said Tom Hill, vice president of operations at St. Joseph Hospital. “These procedures continue to improve patient quality of life and our multidisciplinary team is fully committed to providing the care and resources our patients need for every step of their journey.”

MBSAQIP works to advance safe, high-quality care for bariatric surgical patients through the accreditation of bariatric surgical centers. These rigorous standards ensure exceptional patient outcomes, resources and quality care. The designation highlight providers who deliver excellent care in bariatric surgery to both the community and is recognized by commercial insurers when making coverage decisions. All accredited centers report their outcomes to the MBSAQIP database.  

St. Joseph Hospital supports each patient’s long-term physical, nutritional, emotional and spiritual well-being before, during and after bariatric surgery. Our highly trained bariatric specialists provide the latest technology and advanced procedures in the field. The comprehensive, patient-centered care focuses on a multidisciplinary approach to successful long-term weight loss using the expertise of surgeons, the program coordinator, psychologist, registered dietitians, physical therapists, exercise physiologist, the meditation/spirituality specialist, acute-care surgical and post-op staff, and office personnel. Since the program’s inception, our bariatric surgeons have performed close to 3,000 weight loss surgery procedures at St. Joseph Hospital.
