Providence health system has named Brian Helleland chief executive of Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, effective Nov. 28. Helleland has served as the ministry’s interim chief executive since September. In a dual role, Helleland will serve as the chief executive for the Orange County/High Desert service area, a region that is part of Providence’s recently reorganized California South Division.
“With more than 27 years of executive experience in health care delivery, Brian has a wealth of experience in building clinical programs and services in collaboration with nursing, physician and community partners.” said Laureen Driscoll, chief executive of Providence South Division. “Equally important is Brian’s dedication to our Mission and values, and his unwavering passion for building a culture of servant leadership.”
In his role as chief executive of Providence St. Joseph Hospital, Helleland oversees the clinical operations, nursing and ancillary services for the 463-bed hospital and its 3,100 caregivers and 1,100 provider medical staff. A key priority for Helleland is strengthening the ministry’s integrated delivery network, ensuring patients have a seamless experience across the continuum—from a medical office appointment to an inpatient stay at Providence St. Joseph Hospital.
As chief executive for the Orange County/High Desert Service Area, Helleland will oversee the operations and collaborate with chief executives at Providence Mission Hospital, Providence St. Jude Medical Center, Providence St. Mary Medical Center, in addition his direct oversight of Providence St. Joseph Hospital. Helleland will have cross-continuum oversight of clinical care delivery, including strategic planning and direction for acute care operations in partnership with the chief executives. Helleland’s role will be critical in advancing Providence South Division’s integrated delivery network strategy, and creating greater alignment with the Providence Clinical Network, while developing and growing the medical group and affiliated physicians to enhance affordability, access and quality of services.
Helleland’s previous leadership positions within Providence include Interim Chief of Acute Operations and Programs and Chief Operating Officer for Providence South Division, Chief Executive at Providence St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton and Interim Chief Executive at St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. Prior to joining Providence, Helleland was VP of Ancillary & Support Services at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, CA and held Chief Operations Officer positions in Arizona.
