Learn how you can help make our community more welcoming and inclusive
Across the Providence family of organizations, we are committed to the Mission and our promise to “Know me, care for me, ease my way.” We are continuously seeking ways to better serve our fellow caregivers and our patients.
While often overlooked, the proper use of an individual’s pronouns is a significant sign of respect and acknowledgement. By normalizing the use of pronouns in the workplace, we help others feel recognized and respected while showing our patients we are committed to an inclusive environment and whole-person care.
Why it’s important
Voluntarily sharing your pronouns at work is an important way to make the workspace inclusive and safe for everyone, especially those most impacted of being referred to by the wrong pronouns – transgender, gender non-conforming, gender diverse, and non-binary communities. Using the correct pronouns for others shows respect and is just as important as calling someone by the correct name.
Now, we invite you, our Medical Staff, to consider a few small acts that can have a significant impact on the experience of your peers and patients. Some easy ways to share your pronouns at work are to:
- Include your pronouns as part of your introduction
- Add pronouns to your email signature
- Wear a pronoun pin, available in hospital security offices or hospital administration offices
Thank you for partnering with us to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in our community.
