Protect your patients, community from potential measles outbreak

How Providence is educating and preparing our facilities, communities for potential cases.

SOUTH PUGET SOUND — You may have heard about the first case of measles in an infant, reported in King County on Feb. 26. Contract tracing has been conducted, and fortunately, not other cases were confirmed.

However, due to an increase in measles cases nationally, every healthcare facility should be prepared to identify, isolate, and inform your staff and public health about this highly contagious and potentially severe disease. Seatle Children’s will be hosting a webinar March 14, 7:30-8:30 a.m. to help your frontline clinicians prepare and respond to potential measles cases.

Providence has been closely monitoring the measles outbreak in Texas, as well as surveilling for potential outbreaks in our communities.

At this point, we do not see a cause for concern for additional outbreaks, we remain vigilant and are committed to ensuring our facilities and patients have measles resources and education to keep our communities safe.

Providence has developed an article on our blog: “Understanding measles: What you need to know.”

As a health system, Providence supports vaccination. Vaccines are one of best, most effective ways to prevent disease.

Thank you to all clinicians who have been working so hard to help prevent measles in our communities.
