Walk with a Doc is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire communities through movement and conversation.
SOUTH PUGET SOUND – Providence Medical Group is thrilled about our involvement with the international Walk with a Doc movement! Walk with a Doc is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire communities through movement and conversation. Walk with a Doc was started in 2005 by David Sabgir, MD, a board-certified cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio. The program now extends to hundreds of chapters around the world.
The concept is simple: health care professionals organize walks in their communities and invite their patients, families and community members to join them. The walks are free and open to people of all ages and abilities. Walkers will enjoy a rejuvenating walk with health care professionals, who will provide support to participants and answer questions during the walk.
According to the American Heart Association, walking as little as 30 minutes a day can provide the following benefits:
- Improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels
- Help maintain a healthy body weight and lower risk of obesity
- Enhance mental well-being
- Reduce risk of osteoporosis
Our second walk will take place at Rainier Vista Community Park on April 25 from 10 – 11 a.m. Future events will be held on the fourth Saturday of every month. In the event of inclement weather, the walk will be moved to Capital Mall, where attendees can meet up at the JC Penny entrance.
Providence is deeply committed to supporting the health and education of our community – join us in making a meaningful difference. To learn more about the program, visit Lacey, Washington – Walk with a Doc. For questions about our local chapter, email walkwithadoc@providence.org.
