Here are award recipients that were presented at the 2024 Joint Med Staff meeting Sept. 17 at the Great Wolf Lodge:
Michael Dale Dujela, DPM - Physician Excellence Award of Merit – Providence Centralia
Dr. Dujela joined Washington Orthopaedic Center in 2002. Dr. Dujela was just elected President of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and was inducted into the ACFAS leadership Hall of Fame. Dr. Dujela has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He is the section editor for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery and directs the ACFAS recognized Advanced Surgical Reconstruction Fellowship at Washington Orthopaedic Center.
Dominique Justin Pepper, MD – Medical Staff Provider Excellence Award of Merit – Providence St. Peter
Dr. Pepper joined PMG Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine in 2018. He has been a champion of the Ion Robotic Assisted Bronchoscopy. With new technology, pulmonary nodules are diagnosed more quickly and more accurately. Success at diagnosing lung nodules improved from 50% in 2021 to 85% in 2023. Dr. Pepper has performed more than 30 such procedures with clear evidence of saving lives by earlier detection when lung cancer is more treatable. It takes courage to embrace a new approach and commitment to champion the procedure to patients, other physicians, and the wider community.
Sung-Won Kim, MD – Core Values Award – Providence St. Peter
Dr. Kim joined ENT Associates PLLC in 2012. His dedication to the patients of this community exemplifies the core values of compassion, excellence, and integrity. Dr. Kim’s tireless dedication to the sage and timely care of patients, even when not on call for the hospital, has saved lives. The support he provides for the ED physicians in caring for the sickest patients is invaluable. As put by one of the ER docs, “Dr. Sung-Won Kim has saved more lives while NOT being on call than anyone I’ve ever heard of.”
