Providence Santa Rosa Memorial earns 5th place during Babies With Books Read-A-Thon!

We are proud to share that the UCSF Intensive Care Nursery at Providence Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital earned 5th place out of nearly 200 neonatal intensive care nurseries (NICUs) who participated in the Babies With Books Read-A-Thon!

Thank you to all our caregivers, medical staff and parents who participated by volunteering to read--you made this possible. With your help, we averaged 7.7 reading sessions per baby each day of the Read-A-Thon.

Reading helps build language, literacy, and social-emotional skills at a critical time in the lives of these little ones. This was our second consecutive year participation; last year, we earned 25th place.

“The Read-A-Thon is just one example of how our caregivers are bringing evidence-based practice to the bedside," said Azita Pournaghmeh, director of nursing at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

As another example, our partnership with the Vermont Oxford Network Quality Circle is advancing the health of premature babies. Through this collaboration, we have brought evidence-based practices, like batching needle-based testing to reduce pain, to the bedside to ensure our most vulnerable patients get the best start in life.
