How do robots and AI fit into your health care?

Learn about some ways we’re partnering with leading-edge technology to provide you the best care possible.

What does it really mean when a surgery is performed using a robot? While robotic surgery continues to mystify many, robotics are just one of the many tools available to a surgeon, allowing them to perform procedures minimally invasively with pinpoint accuracy. What does that mean for our patients?

Less pain, faster recoveries and back to life sooner.

At Providence, we’re investing in an expansive array of robotics to improve our patients’ experience, such as the Intuitive da Vinci for general surgery, the Zimmer ROSA® for orthopedic knee replacement and the ExcelsiusGPS™ Globus robot for spine and brain surgeries, just to name a few.

The Globus robot is one of the most leading-edge technologies in health care. A revolutionary, state-of-the-art surgical system, the Globus robot takes spine and brain procedures to the next level by working side-by-side with surgeons and enabling unprecedented accuracy, precision and efficiency — which results in smaller incisions, less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recoveries.

“Traditionally, we’ve had to make a long incision to expose enough of the spinal area for the free-hand placement of screws,” shares Providence Holy Cross Medical Center neurosurgeon Justin Spooler, M.D., a robotics surgeon who is already using the Globus robot for spine procedures. “With Globus, we use just two or three X-rays to teach the robot the patient’s anatomy and then make just a few small incisions. Ultimately, the surgeon is still the one inserting the screws. But you have a much smaller wound and a more rapid healing process."

Providence is dedicated to pioneering the next phase of the surgery revolution and many innovative technologies are on the horizon. It’s all part of our promise to ease the way for our patients, bringing the latest advancements to the communities we serve. Learn more.
