Pre-Procedure COVID-19 Testing
COVID-19 testing is required for all surgery patients within two days (48 hours) prior to surgery, even if you've been vaccinated against COVID-19. Test results must be available prior to your procedure, or your procedure may be canceled. To avoid delays, consider getting tested at a Providence laboratory:
- Providence Health Park, 3841 Piper St, T Tower, Suite 211, Anchorage, AK 99508
Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Tudor Square Mall, 3425 E. Tudor Road, Anchorage, AK 99508
Monday through Friday, call 907-212-3631 for open hours on the day you plan to be tested - Southside, 345 W. 104th, Suite 300, Anchorage, AK 99515
Monday through Friday, call 907-212-3631 for open hours on the day you plan to be tested
If you are not able to get tested for COVID-19 within two days before surgery or if your test is performed at a non-Providence facility, please call the Pre-Admission Clinic immediately at 907-212-6013 to discuss your options.
Important Considerations
- Antigen, antibody, LFT or tests performed on the Abbott ID Now platform will not be accepted as a pre-surgical COVID test. Many rapid tests are not PCR or approved for asymptomatic testing.
- Your procedure may be canceled if you arrive on the day of your surgery without your COVID-19 test results.
- If your COVID-19 test comes back positive, or you become symptomatic, contact your surgeon and/or primary care provider. Your procedure may need to be rescheduled. Please do not come in for your procedure until cleared by your provider.
- For Mat-Su Valley residents: acceptable PCR COVID-19 tests can be performed at the Wasilla Capstone Clinic; however, you must arrive early and request expedited results as a pre-procedure COVID-19 test. Do not get a rapid test.
Visitation
Please see the following link to familiarize yourself with current visitation guidelines at Providence Alaska Medical Center: https://blog.providence.org/covid-alaska-insights/providence-alaska-medical-center-visitation
Note that if you require an escort into the facility, current visitation restrictions may require them to leave promptly.
Pre-Admission Testing Clinic
Please read the following Day of Surgery letter to prepare for your surgery. The Pre-Admission Testing Clinic will call you ahead of your surgery to obtain all necessary information and may order lab work or tests needed for your procedure.
