Alaska’s largest Child Advocacy Center recognized for
providing compassionate care to victims of child abuse

ANCHORAGE, Alaska –  Alaska CARES has been awarded reaccreditation by the National Children’s Alliance (NCA), which evaluates Child Advocacy Center’s to ensure children who are victims of abuse receive consistent, evidence-based services to help them heal.

Alaska CARES, a service of The Children’s Hospital at Providence, earned reaccreditation by demonstrating compliance with the NCA’s standards for high-quality care.

Child Advocacy Center’s must apply for reaccreditation every five years. The NCA works with accredited treatment centers on a five-year cycle to help them meet new, higher standards of practice and performs site reviews to ensure children receive the highest quality services possible.

“Each year, thousands of children in Alaska experience the trauma of abuse,” said Bryant Skinner, director of Alaska CARES and Forensic Nursing Services of Providence. “Accreditation from the NCA demonstrates our commitment to helping kids and families receive the treatment they need so they can begin the process of healing.”

Alaska CARES is the state’s largest Child Advocacy Center and serves children, from newborns to age 18 years, from around the state. Alaska CARES is part of a community collaboration that provides treatment in a facility where victim advocates, law enforcement, child protection, tribal health, forensic medicine and mental health professionals are all located under one roof so they can work together to help victims.
