CORE’s second annual Data Summit, held June 7th, 2024, in Portland, convened 26 community partners from a variety of organizations to explore the power of storytelling through data.
The event is part of CORE's Data for Change program. Now in its fourth year, Data for Change brings CORE’s data experts together with community-based organizations (CBOs) for collaboration and learning aimed at growing community data capacity. The Summit is the program's signature in-person event, offered in addition to webinars and other learning opportunities offered throughout the year.
Keynote speaker Dr. Daesha Ramachandran of Tusk Consultants brought the 2024 Summit’s theme into focus with a talk on ways organizations can integrate equity into their practices by shifting mindsets and moving with intention.
Participants also engaged in a session on analyzing qualitative data, which included a hands-on opportunity to practice coding and theming real data.
The afternoon featured a dynamic "data party," a type of participatory data analysis designed to make data exploration more engaging and meaningful. Attendees walked through the process of data review, data interpretation and collaboration using a sample dataset. To learn more about how to throw a data party, check out the “throwing a data party” slides at the bottom of this post.
Overall, the summit combined insightful presentations with practical skill-building, leaving participants inspired to use data storytelling in their work.
The CORE team would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the participants for your time and engagement. We can’t wait to do it again next year!
