Detecting cancer in its early stage greatly increases the chances of beating it. To help with awareness, here are three types of cancers that you’ve probably never heard of.
Adult soft tissue sarcoma
Adult soft tissue sarcoma is a type of cancer that affects the soft tissues of the body (muscles, tendons, fat, blood vessels, lymph vessels, nerves and tissues around joints). It can form almost anywhere in the body, but are most common in the head, neck, arms, legs, trunk, and abdomen. Symptom may appear as a painless lump under the skin, often on an arm or a leg.
Mesothelioma
Malignant pleural mesothelioma, commonly referred to as mesothelioma, is a type of cancer affecting the pleura, a double-layer sac that covers each lobe of the lung and lines the chest wall, diaphragm and mediastinum. People who get this type of cancer have worked or lived in places where they inhaled or swallowed asbestos. Symptoms include breathing difficulties, a long lasting cough, pain under the rib cage, pain during breathing and weight loss.
Breast cancer in men
Breast cancer in men is rare, but does exist. Most men diagnosed with breast cancer are older than 65, but it can appear in younger men. The most common symptom is a painless lump or swelling behind the nipple.
