The Providence Center for Outcomes Research & Education (CORE) has been awarded a $50,000 grant to advance its growing body of research on breast cancer health inequities.

The funding from the Preparedness and Treatment Equity Coalition (PTEC) and Gilead Sciences will help CORE examine the pathways by which healthcare experiences, including discrimination in the healthcare setting, contribute to gaps in mammography. CORE researchers will also assess the ways in which these experiences may differ for those included and excluded in health system breast cancer screening metrics.

“We are excited to continue our important work of understanding and ultimately addressing the underlying factors that contribute to disparities in breast cancer outcomes among people of color and other groups experiencing inequities in the U.S. health system,” said Monique Gill, a research scientist at CORE.

CORE is among three U.S. research teams receiving similar awards from PTEC. Read the full press release at PTEC’s website: https://ptechealth.org/bc-inequities-press-release
