At Providence, we’re committed to delivering accessible and transformative care. We're constantly searching to decrease barriers to care and enhance our patient experience.

In the pediatric clinic at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, a new cutting-edge technology doing just that: Helping clinicians spend more time connecting with patients — and less time typing.

DAX, a Microsoft Copilot extension, is transforming the way our care is delivered. Using ambient listening, DAX acts as a digital medical scribe, transcribing appointments in real time so clinicians can focus fully on the person in front of them.

For pediatric endocrinologist Marcie Drury Brown, M.D., the impact has been profound. “Before this, I would write quick notes or type while my patient was talking,” she says. “Now, I can be fully present.”

That presence makes a difference. For patient Kaitlyn and her mother Jessica Peshek, the experience felt safer and more personal. “Going in for a doctor’s visit was a more personable experience. It was patient care — not just diagnosis care,” Jessica says.

Beyond improving the quality of patient interactions, DAX is also helping our clinicians reclaim their time outside of work. “It’s given me more of my evening and weekend time back,” Dr. Drury Brown says. “It’s helped me consider staying in medicine longer.”
