MISSION VIEJO (March 17 , 2021) – Joining Providence Mission Hospital’s extensive robotics collection is an innovative bronchoscopy robot called the Auris Health Monarch Platform. The Monarch Platform improves upon traditional bronchoscopies by providing robotic assistance during the procedure.

Lung cancer kills more people globally than any other form of cancer. In fact, lung cancer takes more American lives than prostate, breast and colon cancer combined, often due to challenges in detection. Small peripheral lung nodules can be difficult to reach through traditional bronchoscopy techniques. The Monarch Platform introduces robotic assistance during the bronchoscopy that helps pulmonologists access these hard-to-reach nodules for biopsy, providing improved sight, targeting and control.

“The Monarch robot significantly increases a patient’s chance for survival,” shares pulmonary and critical care physician Dr. Robert Goldberg. “Now we’re able to detect lung cancer at an earlier stage, making the cancer more treatable.” Additionally, the Monarch robot allows for a more minimally invasive procedure and quicker recovery.

“By complementing our physicians with the latest in robotic technology, such as the Auris Monarch Platform, we provide our community with the personalized care and precision they deserve,” says Chief Executive of Providence Mission Hospital Seth Teigen.

Providence Mission boasts several robots, including two Intuitive da Vinci Xi’s for general surgery and oncology, Stereotaxis for cardiovascular catheter ablation, Medtronics MAZOR and Joimax TESSYS for spine, Zimmer ROSA for orthopedic knee replacement, Smith and Nephew CORI for orthopedics, Procept Aquablation for enlarged prostate and SAVI SCOUT for breast cancer.

This impressive collection of robotics is a unique aspect of care that differentiates Providence Mission Hospital. The addition of the Monarch Platform serves as a testament of the hospital’s commitment to continually elevate the standard of care across all service areas.
