University of Providence launches new community health investment certificate

The University of Providence is proudly partnering with Providence and the Catholic Health Association to launch the new Community Health Investment certificate program, which will provide students with the opportunity to learn more about community health, health inequities, community health data analytics, upstream quality improvement, and more with the goal of training leaders in community health/community benefit for hospitals, health systems and community organizations.

The course work focuses on skill set development in interpreting data from health systems, payers, public data sets, emerging geospatial analytics, and information systems. Students will learn about social determinants to develop a broad understanding of population health and will also work to identify collaborative opportunities for health care providers and community-based partners. In addition, there will be an emphasis on understanding the policy and regulatory requirements as well as emerging funding models.  Students will learn how to conduct a community health needs assessment and develop a community health implementation plan.

This 16-credit certificate program is being supported by experienced Community Health Investment (CHI) professionals including Dora Barilla, DrPH, President and Co-Founder of HC2 Strategies; Dana Codron, Providence Regional Director of CHI in Northern California; Barry Ross, MPH MBA, Providence Regional Director of CHI in Southern California; Merry Hutton, Providence Regional Director of CHI in Washington and Montana; and Tavia Hatfield, M Ed, Providence Regional Director of CHI in Texas and New Mexico.

The Community Health Investment certificate is geared towards professionals working within healthcare, community health, population health, and public health that have a desire to develop strong foundational knowledge of community/public health and population health concepts and would like the opportunity to apply this knowledge through involvement in creating, implementing, or evaluating a community health advancement program or project. This certificate is offered as both a freestanding option and as an addition to the University of Providence Master of Healthcare Administration.
