RENTON, Wash., and BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Providence, a not-for-profit health system serving the Western U.S., and Compassus, a leading national provider of integrated home-based care services, announced today they have finalized the second phase of a joint venture for home health, hospice, community-based palliative care and personal home care services in California. The new entity will operate under the name Providence at Home with Compassus.
Under the agreement, Compassus will manage operations for the joint venture, which includes 10 home health, one personal home care, six hospice and two community-based palliative care locations in California. This comes after the March 3 announcement that Providence and Compassus launched their joint venture for home health, hospice and palliative care in Alaska, Texas and Washington.
“This next phase of our joint venture with Compassus is another step toward transforming how care is delivered across our communities,” said Terri Warren, chief of community services at Providence. “By continuing to expand home-based services, we honor our legacy of care and invest in the future of health care where comfort, dignity and support are provided directly in patients’ homes. And we’re just getting started—more innovation and expansion are on the horizon.”
This expanded collaboration builds on the success of the first wave of the joint venture and underscores both organizations’ shared commitment to meeting patients where they are. By combining Compassus’ deep expertise in home-based care and operational excellence with Providence’s trusted presence and mission-driven care, the joint venture is positioned to address growing demand, reduce health care costs and respond to workforce challenges. Together, the two organizations are creating smoother transitions for patients, enhancing communication between providers and improving the quality of home-based care. Patients and families will benefit from more timely discharge coordination, shortened hospital stays and reduced readmissions, enabling more individuals to transition home sooner with peace of mind.
“As we move forward together, we’re building the infrastructure and innovation needed to serve more people, in more places, with the care they deserve,” Compassus Chief Executive Officer Mike Asselta explained. “Through early identification of patients’ needs, prompt initiation of integrated services and data-driven outcomes tracking, we are ensuring patients receive the right care at the right time. This long-term relationship, grounded in our shared values, enables us to make a lasting difference in the lives of patients and families.”
Compassus tailors its comprehensive home-based care to the needs of each patient to improve outcomes, providing services that include home health, home infusion, palliative and hospice care. The company now serves patients across more than 300 programs in 33 states. Compassus has a strong track record of joint ventures with not-for-profit health systems, having forged similar joint ventures with providers such as Ascension, Bon Secours Mercy Health and OhioHealth.
