How Partnership Sets Our ALS Center Apart

The Providence ALS Center of Excellence is proud to offer compassionate and comprehensive care for people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. We host a multidisciplinary clinic that allows our patients to stay in one room while the specialists -- neurologists, nurses, dieticians, pulmonologists and others -- come visit them throughout the day. Then, the team of specialists meets to discuss how they can best continue caring for that patient.

But there is one more team member that makes our Center truly unique: The ALS Association of Oregon and Southwest Washington. The Association's staff are embedded in our clinic, so that we can work hand in hand to provide resources like access to clinical trials, social work, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), support groups, and more.

In the words of our Co-Medical Director, Dr. Kimberly Goslin, "ALS is a very difficult disease to live with. I approach people with: what we can do, and how can we treat it, and the love and support that they're going to have here at the Center."
