The Think Tank Ep. 3: Leveraging Tech to Drive Positive Behavior Change

What happens when you bring together two bright minds to tackle healthcare’s challenges?

This isn’t your typical brainstorm between healthcare experts. No, this is a supercharged session between two minds that work in similar, but very disparate industries. Our guests talk about a broad challenge they face and discuss how they’ve approached the problem in their respective fields. The magic? To see how their approaches to a challenge can be applied to another industry to spark new avenues of innovation. This series is all about creating synergy between two different, but very like-minded healthcare and tech experts.

For this series, we brought together experts from both tech and healthcare to discuss problem areas that parallel their industries. Our guests have a candid discussion about the barriers they face, and brainstormed ways they could overcome the challenges that stand in the way of innovation in their respective industries.

About 1 in 5 U.S. adults live with a mental illness. At Providence St. Joseph Health, we’re using technology to improve mental health care services. With technology like cellphones seemingly becoming more ubiquitous than running water and stable electricity, we at PSJH believe that digitally-enabled solutions can be a game-changer in improving mental healthcare. At PSJH’s Digital Innovation Group, we want to keep innovating, and we know we can learn more ways to innovate from people outside of our industry.

In our third episode, we welcome our own Arpan Waghray, a System Medical Director of tele-behavioral health at PSJH, as well as the CMO of Well Being Trust. Arpan was joined by Jordan Goldberg, who is the CEO and Chairman of stickK to discuss how they’re both leveraging digital technology to drive positive behavior change. Arpan spoke with Jordan to learn about how his team approached similar problems that stood in their way. As it turns out, the healthcare and consumer self-help technology industries face a lot of similar challenges.

Listen below to see how stickK and PSJH are leveraging digital to improve access to resources for underserved communities:
