Cultural Variances in Bioethics: Differing Approaches to Common Clinical Dilemmas

Presenter: Daniel Fu-Chang Tsai, M.D., PhD Recorded: April 30, 2019 Series: Goldman-Berland Lectureship in Palliative Medicine Does a universal morality exist? Can foundations of global bioethics be found? Can prominent Western principles of autonomy, beneficence, justice, and nonmaleficence be applied to Chinese or Eastern Asian societies largely based on Confucian ethics? Dr. Tsai will explore the idea of cultural variances through clinical case examples, and how different theories or understandings of the self and social orientation are relevant in these settings.
