Colville, Wash. -- Providence Mount Carmel Hospital in Colville has been recognized as a 2021 Top 100 Critical Access Hospital. It is one of only two hospitals in Washington to make the list.

Mount Carmel Hospital Chief Administrative Officer Ron Rehn called the recognition an honor.

“For more than 100 years Mount Carmel Hospital has served the Stevens County community. Our team offers 24-hour emergency care, surgery services, labor and delivery, specialty support and outpatient services that you would expect at a big-city hospital — right in Colville,” Rehn said. “Critical Access Hospitals help ensure everyone has access to high-quality health care, no matter their zip code.”

This annual program evaluates the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Hospital Strength INDEX®, which is compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health.

Over the course of the last 11 years, the INDEX has grown to become the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance. It is based entirely on public data and utilizes 36 independent indicators. The INDEX assesses rural hospitals across eight pillars of performance, including market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge, and financial efficiency. The INDEX framework is widely used across the nation by independent rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints and state offices of rural health, which provide access to INDEX analytics through grant-funded initiatives.
