AUGUST 18, 2022 – After more than 30 years with the Providence family of organizations, Darren Redick, chief executive of Providence Swedish North Puget Sound, has decided to step away. Kristy Carrington, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, chief nursing officer (CNO) for the Providence North Division, has agreed to serve as interim chief executive.
“I am grateful to Darren for his servant leadership, extraordinary work ethic, and operational expertise,” said R. Guy Hudson, MD, MBA, Chief Executive North Division, Providence, and President and Chief Executive Officer, Swedish Health Services. “He served during a period of tremendous challenges and changes in health care. His legacy at Providence Swedish will impact patients and caregivers for years to come.”
During his tenure with the organization, Darren led the construction, commissioning, and operational transition for the Cymbaluk Medical Tower, which includes the ability to create patient units with negative air flow that can be used in a pandemic. He also led development of Providence Everett’s Service Operations Center, which brings key operational information to a central hub in real time. These advancements, and many others led by Darren, have been key to weathering the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It has been a great honor to serve at Providence Swedish,” Redick said. “Our caregivers are the best there are, and I am proud of what we accomplished together in service to our mission.”
“While we wish Darren the best, we are excited that Kristy Carrington will serve as interim chief executive,” Hudson said. “Kristy is a seasoned leader who brings a nurse’s perspective to all her work. She has an excellent vision for how health care – and nursing in particular – can adapt to the realities we face today and ensure the Providence and Swedish missions continue to thrive in the future. I am excited for her to bring her leadership and expertise to this role.”
Previously, Kristy was the CNO for Providence Swedish North Puget Sound, and prior to that, was CNO of Swedish First Hill. Kristy holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Delaware and a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University.
Kristy is an experienced nurse executive in hospital and health system operations, with a focus on clinical and operational excellence using process improvement standards and performance metrics. In her leadership roles, Kristy has unified the management of staffing, scheduling and patient flow across multiple hospitals and campuses. She is adept at driving strategic operational priorities including workforce and staffing, length of stay, and quality initiatives.
In her most recent role, Kristy has been leading the implementation of new care models that will help frontline caregivers and set our organization on a path to sustained success.
“One of my top priorities is developing our workforce through recruitment, retention, and caregiver engagement,” Carrington said. “I will also build on the strong foundation of diversity and inclusion work and community partnerships that make Providence Swedish a pillar in our communities. Providence and Swedish have long histories of serving patients in Snohomish County and beyond, and I am looking forward to what’s ahead.”
