Providence Swedish South Puget Sound announces a reduction of Outpatient Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy Services

October 23, 2024

In response to the evolving health care landscape, Providence Swedish in the South Puget Sound is continuing to adapt our service delivery models to meet the increasing needs of our community more effectively. The focus of these efforts is to ensure the core services we provide continue into the future. Remaining steadfast in serving this vulnerable population is paramount to us, our Mission, and our community’s wellbeing.

After careful analysis and consideration, we have decided to close a majority of our Outpatient Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy program. We recognize there are other resources for these services within the communities we serve.

We will close our services at:

  • Chehalis Physical Therapy
  • Tumwater Physical Therapy
  • Pediatric and Orthopedic Rehabilitation programs at the clinic on Sleater-Kinney Road
  • Physical Therapy Services at Providence Medical Group Panorama clinic

The clinics/services will close on Jan. 17.

Specialty Outpatient Rehabilitation Services will continue at Centralia Hospital. This continuation of services will ensure that our most vulnerable patients in Lewis County continue to receive care locally without the added burden of traveling long distances. Additionally, we will maintain our Outpatient Neuro and a portion of our Lymphedema Therapy programs in Thurston County at different locations which will be announced as plans are finalized. These programs are essential for supporting our Oncology and Neurology patients. No changes will be made to the inpatient therapy services provided at both Centralia and St. Peter hospitals.

We will work to transition our patients currently receiving care in the impacted clinics. Patients will be able to continue with their existing care teams through mid-January 2025.

We recognize making changes is difficult. We are committed to supporting our caregivers through this transition,” said Chief Executive Darin Goss.

Providence Swedish remains committed to adapt, innovate, and lead in health care to better serve our communities. We believe these changes, though difficult, are necessary steps towards a sustainable health care future in South Puget Sound.
