How Providence is looking to restart surgeries in Washington

Hospitals in Seattle, New York and Cleveland are beginning to share their plans to restart surgeries and procedures and executives are highlighting the importance of starting services back up to care for patients that had checkups, vaccines and non-emergency surgeries pushed back.

Providence plans to bring back surgeries based on how urgent they are, the plan is to test patients and caregivers for the coronavirus before they go into the operating rooms. Dr. Rod Hochman expresses his concern about taking care of the whole public “the right way” when noting how the system is grappling with restarting services. He worries that people who need care aren’t coming into the hospital because of their fear of getting exposed to COVID-19 or that their treatments have been postponed.
