Alaska: Visitor instructions for the hospitals

March 26, 2020 Providence News Team

In order to protect the health of our communities, and as a safety precaution to prevent the risk of spreading COVID-19, Providence Alaska Medical Center is instituting visitor restrictions. At this time, no visitors are allowed. Exceptions to this policy include:

  • Under special circumstances, one person may accompany a patient being treated in the Emergency Department, determined on a case-by-case basis.
  • Children receiving care at The Children’s Hospital at Providence may have two parents or guardians, but should stay in the unit as much as possible. This includes the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. Outpatient pediatric patients may have one parent accompany them.
  • Labor & Delivery and Maternity patients may have one partner or birth support person of their choosing.
  • Patients who are end of life may have one visitor at a time.
  • Individuals allowed to remain with patients should limit their coming and going from the facility to urgent needs only.

All outside guests and visitors will be screened for symptoms prior to entry.

Providence understands the importance of patients attending to their loved ones while receiving care in the hospital. At this time, we ask patients and their families to consider communication through phone and video chat as their primary means of communication.

Additionally, entrance to the hospital will be restricted to the hospital main entrance, emergency department entrance, and the Sky Bridge entrance (2nd level of parking garage) that connects to the Providence Health Park on Piper Street.

Providence continues to monitor the risk of COVID-19 closely and will make adjustments to visitor restrictions as necessary. We appreciate your help in keeping our patients, visitors and caregivers safe.
