Providence Heart Institute is armed with $75 million from Phil and Penny Knight, ambition and the know-how to pick up the slack from OHSU and bring back heart transplants to Oregon

Karanjeet Samra lives in Gresham but traveled all the way to the University of Washington in Seattle on March 30th to receive a new heart.

Samra’s transplant the next morning was a success, and since his discharge about two weeks ago, he has been staying with relatives in Seattle. He’s feeling good, despite occasional shortness of breath, but the situation isn’t ideal.
