On Feb. 28, 2026, Providence South Division Philanthropy hosted the annual Physician Champion Awards at The Langham Huntington in Pasadena. Several physicians were recognized for excellence in patient care and philanthropy, including Nikolai Bildzukewicz, M.D., general surgeon at Providence St. Jude.

Fondly known as Dr. B, his career has been shaped by a deep commitment to service. After earning his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College, he served on active duty as a U.S. Navy Flight Surgeon before returning to Jefferson to complete his general surgery residency. He later completed a fellowship in minimally invasive, bariatric and robotic surgery at UC San Diego and went on to spend nearly a decade at USC, advancing foregut and upper GI surgery while training future surgeons.

Today, as Medical Director of Foregut and Robotic Surgery and Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery at Providence St. Jude, Dr. Bildzukewicz specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of GERD, hiatal and paraesophageal hernias and esophageal motility disorders, including achalasia, as well as the advanced surgical treatment of esophageal and gastric cancer. A strong advocate for philanthropy, he serves as chair of the Physician Leadership Group, bringing physicians together to help advance the mission through donor partnership, while also supporting Foundation events and engaging with donors to strengthen the future of care at Providence St. Jude. Watch the short video to learn more about the impact he’s making.
