Providence Holy Cross Medical Center announced the opening of its newly expanded cardiac rehabilitation gym designed to help patients safely rebuild their strength and confidence after a cardiac event. The updated space doubles the gym’s previous capacity and reinforces the hospital’s commitment to advancing heart health in the northern San Fernando Valley.
Tailored for individuals who have experienced a cardiac event within the past year, the cardiac rehabilitation outpatient program includes personalized exercise plans, stress management support, nutrition counseling, continuous heart monitoring and one-on-one guidance from a team of cardiac care specialists.
“Our goal is to help patients rebuild their health and reduce their risk of future heart problems,” said Dr. Kenneth Tam, medical director of cardiology at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. “Each year, nearly half a million Americans experience a repeat heart attack — yet fewer than 20 percent of eligible patients participate in a cardiac rehabilitation program. Our expanded facility aims to close that gap by making heart recovery more accessible.”
According to the American Heart Association, patients who complete cardiac rehabilitation have up to a 35 percent lower risk of death compared to those who do not participate, and their risk of a second heart attack can be reduced by as much as 20 percent. Additional benefits include improved blood pressure and cholesterol levels, greater strength and stamina and enhanced overall quality of life.
Dr. Bernard Klein, chief executive of Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, said the new gym reflects the hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care close to home. “We are dedicated to supporting our patients through every step of their recovery process and proud to provide award-winning cardiac care right here in Mission Hills,” said Dr. Klein.
The expanded cardiac rehab gym was made possible through the generous support of the Providence Holy Cross Foundation and its donors. “We are deeply grateful to our donors whose generosity made this state-of-the-art facility possible,” said Joanne Reyes, president and chief philanthropy officer of the Providence Holy Cross Foundation. “Their support ensures that more patients in our community can access the highest standard of cardiac care and recovery.”
Patients are encouraged to speak with their health care provider about whether cardiac rehabilitation is right for them. For more information, please contact the Providence Holy Cross Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at 818-496-4595.
