In 2021, Petaluma Valley Hospital was re-designated as a Baby-Friendly hospital by Baby-Friendly USA.
Achievement of the Baby-Friendly Re-Designation is not an easy task. The U.S. Guidelines and Evaluation Criteria are based on the global criteria for the WHO/UNICEF Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI). The global program was established in 1991 to encourage the broad-scale implementation of the Ten Steps To Successful Breastfeeding and the International Code of marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes. The criteria are challenging, as they are designed to set the standards for the best possible breastfeeding support for mother and infant in the maternity setting.
Recently, Baby-Friendly reached out to caregivers at PVH to discuss the incredible success of the breastfeeding program at the hospital. Click here to learn more.
