Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center (PSJMC) has been recognized by Healthgrades as a 2022 Patient Safety Excellence Award recipient. This distinction places PSJMC among the top 10% in the nation as evaluated by Healthgrades, the leading marketplace connecting patients and providers. PSJMC was also recognized by Healthgrades as a Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Sepsis for ten years in a row.
Sepsis is one of the leading causes of hospital readmissions and hospital-related deaths. Sepsis is especially dangerous for the elderly, the very young, and people with chronic medical conditions. People who survive it can also develop post-sepsis syndrome, which is characterized by chronic physical and psychological problems.
Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 31 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. This analysis shows that patients treated at hospitals receiving a 5-star rating have a lower risk of mortality and a lower risk of experiencing one or more complications during a hospital stay than if they were treated at hospitals receiving a 1-star rating in that procedure or condition.
“To be a five-star recipient in the treatment of Sepsis for ten years and counting is an amazing accomplishment,” said Karl Keeler, chief executive at PSJMC. “As both of these Healthgrades recognitions demonstrate, the physicians and caregivers at Providence Saint Joseph are truly committed to delivering exceptional care to our community.”
