
Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Calif., has appointed Joe Kim, M.D., MPH, FACP, FACHE, as chief medical officer, effective Jan. 5, 2026.
Dr. Kim is a nationally recognized physician executive with more than 15 years of leadership experience in academic medical centers and integrated health systems. He has a distinguished record of advancing quality, safety and patient experience, while championing population health, digital innovation and equity.
At Providence Saint Joseph, Dr. Kim will oversee medical affairs, drive clinical quality and safety initiatives and shape strategic priorities for patient care. His leadership and vision will play a vital role in advancing the hospital's goals to improve health outcomes, foster innovative approaches to care delivery and enhance patient experience across the region.

Prior to Providence, Dr. Kim served as chief medical officer and designated institutional official at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center, where he led medical staff affairs, clinical strategy and graduate medical education for a flagship hospital with more than 1,200 affiliated physicians. He has also held leadership roles at Dignity Health – California Hospital Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Health System.

Dr. Kim earned a bachelor’s degree in natural sciences/public health from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Public Health from Columbia University and a medical degree from George Washington University. He completed his residency in internal medicine and primary care at Yale School of Medicine and a postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA School of Medicine. He is a fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Healthcare Executives and was named in Becker’s “Top Chief Medical Officers to Know” in 2024 and 2025.
