Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center Awarded Grant by the Community Foundation of the Verdugos for the Minutes Matter Emergency Services Campaign

Burbank, CA – Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center (PSJMC) was recently awarded a five-year, $25,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the Verdugos. The funds will be used to support the Minutes Matter Emergency Services Campaign, which includes the construction of a new 34,500 sq. ft. Emergency Department (ED) and 8,400 sq. ft. adjacent Urgent Care Center.

Over the past several years, PSJMC’s ED patient volume has rapidly risen due to the growing and aging population of its surrounding communities. Along with support from other donors, corporations, and funders, the grant from the Community Foundation of the Verdugos will enable PSJMC to increase its capacity to handle more than 93,000 patient visits per year.

The new facility will allow caregivers to move patients in different directions and use rooms for multiple purposes, enabling a smooth and efficient workflow even at the busiest of times. The design includes open linear concepts, allowing the ED to expand and contract with varying volumes. It also brings the ability to support the higher acuity geriatric population in the future as this patient group continues to grow.

The new ED will include enhanced features and new approaches to emergency caregiving and holistic, family-centered care, including larger treatment rooms, enhanced imaging, isolation rooms, improved triage, and dedicated Behavioral Health Units. We anticipate that the positive impact of the new ED and Urgent Care Center, coupled with enhancements in patient care and behavioral health services, will lead to improved patient outcomes and experience.
