Sharing sad news from our Oregon ministry

September 9, 2024 Providence News Team

The message below was shared with Providence caregivers on Sept. 7. Updates will be provided when they become available.

Our hearts are broken at the news of the death of our Providence St. Vincent nurse and colleague, Melissa Jubane. This comes as a shock to us here in Oregon, and to all her family and friends. Early this morning, Beaverton Police announced they arrested Melissa’s neighbor and charged him with murder.

We have been made aware that the arrested suspect worked as a nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center from September 2022 to October 2023 in surgical services. He left Providence last fall. If you have information that you think might be relevant to this tragic case, Beaverton Police ask that you call them at 503-526-2280.

Melissa touched many hearts at St. Vincent. While I never had the privilege to meet Melissa in person, I have heard many stories since her disappearance. We have lost a true person of Providence, with her daily care of patients and support of her care team, always demonstrating our values of compassion, justice, excellence, dignity and integrity.

Our spiritual care team is supporting our Oregon teams, and we have also reminded our caregivers that additional confidential resources are available 24/7 through our caregiver assistance program.

In the days ahead, we will gather to remember Melissa and celebrate the life she shared with us. Please join us in prayer for Melissa’s loved ones, whom we hope will find peace in the memory of the love, healing and kindness she shared as a nurse.
