RENTON, Wash. [Aug. 19, 2026] — Providence St. Joseph Health, a not-for-profit health system serving the Western U.S., today announced that Kevin L. Smith has been appointed chief financial officer, effective Oct. 26.
As CFO, Smith will oversee Providence’s enterprise financial strategy, planning, capital allocation and operational performance. His appointment comes as Providence continues to strengthen its financial foundation, advance operational excellence and invest in care delivery models that support its Mission of serving all, especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
“Kevin is a highly respected healthcare finance leader with a strong track record of improving performance, guiding complex organizations and positioning health systems for long-term success,” said Erik Wexler, president and chief executive officer of Providence. “His experience, judgment and commitment to Mission-driven stewardship will be invaluable as we continue strengthening Providence for the future.”
Smith currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer at SSM Health, where he supports the board and key committees and oversees a broad portfolio of enterprise and finance functions. Smith has nearly two decades of healthcare finance leadership experience. In addition to his current role at SSM Health, he previously served in senior financial leadership positions at Luminis Health, Lehigh Valley Health Network, Universal Health Services and the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Marketing from Drexel University and later completed a Master of Liberal Arts in Finance and Real Estate from Harvard University Extension School.
