Providence SoCal hospitals rated among Best Hospitals, Providence Mission and Providence Saint John’s rank nationally in Orthopedics

All eight eligible Providence hospitals in Los Angeles and Orange counties earned high rankings from U.S. News & World Report, including two that ranked nationally for orthopedics care. 

U.S. News announced its prestigious Best Hospitals rankings and ratings today, bestowing a total of 132 honors on the eight hospitals. Of approximately 415 hospitals across the state, these hospitals were rated among California’s top 33.  

Providence Mission Hospital with campuses in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach, maintained its rank of No. 35 in the nation for orthopedics and Providence Saint John’s Health Center, Santa Monica, No. 38. 

The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive quality care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.

“The U.S. News data show our clinicians and physicians continue to advance care across our Providence Southern California hospitals, thanks in part to the shared expertise that lifts us all,” said Laureen Driscoll, chief executive of Providence in California. “My gratitude goes to our leadership, which empowers our staff to continue reaching new heights in quality patient care.”

U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 21 procedures and conditions; only 12% of evaluated hospitals earned a Best Hospitals ranking. Hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.

“For 34 years, U.S. News has provided data-informed rankings to help patients and their doctors find the best hospital to treat their illness or condition,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News.

In Los Angeles County, Providence Saint John’s, was ranked 6th in the L.A. Metro Area and 12th in the state for quality; Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, Burbank, Nos. 13 and 24; Providence Holy Cross Medical Center and Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance tied at Nos. 16 and 28; and Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center No. 20 and tied at 33 in the state.

In Orange County, Providence Mission ranked No. 9 in the L.A. Metro Area, No. 16 in the state; Providence St. Joseph, Orange, Nos. 13 and 24; and Providence St. Jude Medical Center, No. 16 and 28.

The hospitals received a total of 114 “high performing” accolades for specialties and procedures, meaning they performed among the top 10 percent across the U.S. in specific areas.

L.A. County

Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center – High performing in gastroenterology/GI surgery and orthopedics, and for these procedures and treatments: colon cancer surgery, COPD, heart attack, heart failure, hip fracture, kidney failure, leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, pneumonia and stroke.

Providence Holy Cross Medical Center – High performing in geriatrics, orthopedics, pulmonology and lung surgery and urology, and for procedures and treatment for, colon cancer surgery, COPD, heart attack, heart failure, hip fracture, kidney failure, Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, pneumonia and stroke.

Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance  High performing in neurology and neurosurgery, and orthopedics, and for these procedures and treatment of conditions: colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, hip fracture, kidney failure, knee replacement, leukemia, lymphoma & myeloma, pneumonia, stroke.

Providence Saint John’s Health Center – Rated high performing in geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and pulmonology and lung surgery, and for these procedures and conditions: spinal fusion, COPD, colon cancer surgery, heart attack, heart failure, hip fracture, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, leukemia, lymphoma & myeloma, lung cancer surgery, pneumonia, prostate cancer surgery, stroke and uterine cancer surgery.

Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center  High performing in geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics and urology, and for procedures and treatment of COPD, colon cancer surgery, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, pneumonia and stroke. 

Orange County

Providence Mission Hospital – High performing in, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, pulmonology and lung surgery, orthopedics and neurology and neurosurgery, and for procedures and treating these conditions: COPD, colon cancer, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, hip fracture, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, lung cancer surgery, pneumonia and stroke.

Providence St. Joseph Hospital Orange – High performing in neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics and pulmonology and lung surgery, and for procedures and treatment for colon cancer, heart attack, heart failure, hip fracture, kidney failure, knee replacement, leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, lung cancer surgery, pneumonia, prostate cancer surgery, stroke and TAVR (Transcatheter aortic valve replacement.)

Providence St. Jude Medical Center – High performing in neurology and neurosurgery, and for high performance in treatment of colon cancer surgery, heart attack, heart bypass, heart failure, hip fracture, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, leukemia, lymphoma & myeloma, pneumonia and stroke.
